No brain, no gain: Without a central control unit neither living thing nor machine will function. The computing unit of a BMW has been the so called body domain controller (BDC). Historically .objective Software GmbH and BMW have been longstanding partners in the development and maintenance of the carmaker’s BDCs. The next product cyle marks a new beginning with a new name: The body domain controller has become the basis central platform BCP-2021. Behind the scenes, though, nothing will change: .objective remains the supplier of the software.
Basis Central Platform BCP-2021 is the New BDC
.objective has been part of the development of this central element for a long time. With the BDC-2018, the company led by Dr. Clemens Dannheim and Robert Hoffmann has acted as the main supplier of the software. The Munich based team developed the control unit, which will be installed in 35 different BMWs starting mid 2018. With it, the BMW’s drivers control the complete set of fuctions of their car: internal and external lights, windows, mirrors, climate, and much more. The project BCP-2021 will be in progress according to the usual cycles of the control unit. The 40-person team of .objective will develop the new basis central platform until 2021, after which they will be incorporated in the new cars.
.objective’s responsibilities include all of the vehicle’s basic functions as well as requirement, problem and release management of the features. The technology of the basis central platform BCP-2021 is based on embedded systems, specifically AUTOSAR. This open software architecture has been the industry standard since 2013.
.objective and BMW Design for Driving Pleasure
BMW and .objective continue their longstanding partnership with BCP-2021. “Fortunately, BMW has once again nominated .objective Software to be the supplier of the software component BCP-2021”, Dr. Dannheim said on the renewal of the contract. “The basis central platform BCP is a central component of every BMW car. .objective’s software will design a newly produced BMW for driving pleasure.”
