Autonomous driving requires an enormous set of tools and technologies to be realised. A lot has been done, but there is still a long way to go.
The availability of update HD maps is without doubt one of the key enablers here. At .objective we have developed a technology for the detection of parking spaces by moving vehicles equipped with cameras and radar sensors. Generation of a coarse 3D reconstruction (point cloud) is the first step. After this, digital maps with information regarding available parking spots is created from video frames, used in combination with map-matched vehicle position to estimate parking spots in the current frame. Ground markings can be used for increased accuracy.
