Curiosity: Internal product-oriented R&D project that aims to explore current business areas for Objective. Close collaboration with major OEMs and universities has been initiated for this purpose.

The first fully autonomous cars will be expensive, very expensive. A glance at the Tesla models shows us that the cheapest vehicle of the fleet still costs $49,000. And for good reason: the technology within a self-driving car is costly. We’re talking high-definition cameras, radars, and LiDAR-sensors as well as communication devices which let the cars interact with their surroundings. However, when you take the sensors from the car and bring them to its surroundings, the infrastructure acts as the eyes and ears of the vehicle – efficient, cost-effective and timesaving.
Objective Software is working on a solution that puts the technology in the infrastructure of any area –production plants, airports, warehouses, parking decks and much more – and is able to steer any vehicle to its desired location. The sensors in the vehicle’s environment take care of localization; the path planning and mapping happen in the cloud. The cloud then also steers the car to its destined location.
In an enterprise setting, infrastructure-based autonomous driving not only makes sense economically and technologically, but it is also feasible today. By equipping our environment with smart technology step by step, we will be able to put the pieces together and finally form the connected world of the future.
