Problems solved: autonomous vehicles and the next generation of ADAS will require a huge amount of map data to ensure safe, smooth and comfortable journeys. Collecting this information and keeping the dataset up-to-date may have enormous costs, which are now one of the main hurdles to be cleared for the massive introduction of autonomous driving features. Our Smart Road Scanner makes this task cheap, fast, and reliable.
Autonomous driving requires an enormous set of tools and technologies to be realised. A lot has been done, but there is still a long way to go. The availability of update HD maps is without doubt one of the key enablers here. At .objective we have developed a technology for quick reconstruction of 3D HD maps using the information from a single high-precision laser scanner mounted on the rooftop of our research vehicle. All this is done while driving at speeds of up to 70 km/h, which makes the operation fast and convenient.
.objective works on autonomous driving map reconstruction based on high-precision laser scanners, Global Positioning System and Inertial Navigation Systems and our efficient SLAM+ algorithm. In combination these tools allow the positioning and orientation of the footprint of a laser beam as it hits an object, to a high degree of accuracy. MAP3 not only generates 3D maps but also recognises and classifies objects to populate digital maps, supporting road automation at all levels.
